Quite doubtful hypothesis by Mayrhofer ZDMG 105, 181 n. 2 (S. 182; after Thieme): to Skt. lakṣá- `stake' (: λάχος as vatsá-: Ϝέτος; but λάχος is innovation). On earlier attempts s.
